Frequently Asked Questions
Gel Allergies: What You Need to Know
Gel allergies are often caused by repeated exposure to certain chemicals found in gel polish formulas, particularly HEMA (Hydroxyethyl Methacrylate). HEMA is a common ingredient that helps the gel adhere to the natural nail, but for some people, it can cause sensitivity or allergic reactions. Most allergies tend to occur with low-quality at-home gel kits, where improper application or curing can leave gels “uncured.” This can allow chemicals to penetrate the skin and potentially lead to irritation or allergies.
At The Little Nail Room, we prioritize your health and safety. If you’re concerned about allergies or have had reactions in the past, we offer HEMA-free alternatives to help minimize any risks:
– HEMA-Free BIAB from The GelBottle and Verin.
– HEMA-Free Polygel (Proform) from The GelBottle
These options provide long-lasting, beautiful nails with reduced risk of allergic reactions. For Gel X extensions, we use All-in-One BIAB from The GelBottle, which contains 50% less HEMA than standard gels to further reduce exposure.
While we do offer gel polish options that contain HEMA, our experienced nail technicians are trained to apply the product carefully and professionally, ensuring proper curing and minimizing any potential risk of irritation. We also use brands like Polish Amsterdam, Gellex, Urban Nails, and Blazing Stars, which are not HEMA-free, but we take extra precautions with application to keep your nails safe.
We also take extra measures to maintain a clean and secure environment at The Little Nail Room. Our stylists wear disposable gloves between clients, and each client receives their own sanitized tool set. For safety, we ask clients to refrain from booking appointments if they have fungal infections or medical nail issues, and we require everyone to wash their hands thoroughly before starting their service.
If you have any questions or concerns about gel allergies or the products we use, feel free to reach out. We’re here to help you enjoy beautiful, healthy nails!

Gel nail polish is a type of nail polish that is cured under a UV or LED lamp. It offers a longer-lasting and more durable finish compared to traditional nail polish.
What is BIAB (Builder in a Bottle)?
BIAB, or Builder in a Bottle, is a type of gel product that is used to create a strong and natural-looking extension on the nails. It’s a popular option for those seeking a more durable and versatile nail enhancement. We use The Gel Bottle products to perform BIAB treatments at The Little Nail Room.
What is polygel?
Polygel is a hybrid nail enhancement product that combines the qualities of both acrylic and traditional gel. It’s used to create extensions and overlays on natural nails. Polygel is more flexible and lightweight than acrylic, making it a comfortable and durable option for nail enhancements.
What is Gel-X extension?
Gel-X extension is a specific type of nail extension system that uses a soft gel formula and dual forms to create longer and more durable nails. The process involves applying the gel onto the natural nail and using a pre-made dual form to shape and cure the extension. Gel-X extensions are known for their natural look, flexibility, and ease of application.

Our technicians clean their hands thoroughly and wear gloves during each appointment, and we require clients to wash their hands and brush the nails with a nail brush under running water before the treatments.
How should I care for my nails after my appointment?
To maintain your beautiful nails, we recommend using cuticle oil and moisturizing your hands daily. This helps to keep your nails and skin healthy and hydrated.
